Nicole Dagesse | Dance with the Art| August 26

Nicole Dagesse is a Vermont native whose rural upbringing in the forests and fields is a direct inspiration for her movement style and choreographic desires. Combining her training in Modern Dance, Contact Improvisation, and Aerial Dance, Nicole approaches each new site with inquisitive play and rigorous movement research. Nicole earned her BFA in Dance and BS in Environmental Science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst where she was immersed in the creativity of the local dance scene. Nicole cites Wire Monkey Dance as a major influence in her work. It was while playing on the scaffolding that her 3-dimensional movement patterns began to develop, and her love of partnering work took flight. After several years dancing in the Boston area, Nicole felt it was time to continue her dance education as an artist and teacher, and moved to Boulder, Co. to pursue an MFA in Site Dance and Somatic Practices. Since earning her Masters of Fine Arts, Nicole has been teaching and choreographing in North Carolina. She has moved back to the Burlington area to establish Murmurations Dance as a permanent Vermont dance company.

Meg Walker| Does It Move? - Three Sculptors Explore Kinetics | October 7

Birds, Barns, Brains are the three primary bodies of sculpture that Meg Walker has produced since immigrating to Vermont from Scotland in the late 1960's.

Walker comments on her 1993 "Birds" series - I had become interested in how one creates the sense of flying and the essence of "birdness" with minimal amounts of materials and gestures.

In her "Barns" series two sculptures Toppling Barns and Barns in the Air both evoke the sense of movement in these static architectural structures while Walker's "Brains" sculptures contend, often aided by a motion sensor, with the idea of making visual the stream of images and ideas in her head, constantly flitting through her mind. George Sherwood | Does It Move? - Three Sculptors Explore Kinetics | October 7

American sculptor George Sherwood explores aesthetic systems of space, time, and the dynamic relationships of objects in motion. The choreography of each piece is governed by a set of basic movements, facilitated by an arrangement of aerodynamic surfaces connected by rotational points. His work is usually made of stainless steel, the reflective qualities of which integrate the sculpture into its environment. For his outdoor works, wind speed and direction, shades of light, time of day, precipitation, and seasonal color transform the qualities of light and movement of the sculpture. Recently, Sherwood has been engaged with installations of wall based works for siting indoors, with elements so finely pitched, they respond to the slightest currents of air. The wall works present a shimmering, subtly shifting surface of reflected light and color, animating its surrounding environment. Memory of Zeno, a piece featured at PULSE New York in May, 2013, is the newest work in the wall based sculptural series.

Sherwood's work is in permanent collections and exhibitions throughout New England and the U.S. Sherwood resides in Ipswich, MA. More at www.georgesherwood.com
